Kat’s portrait tutorial PART 5 of 8: Use full page, draw closeup, add black

Recall: PART 1: DOODLE WITH RED OR ORANGE

Recall: PART 2: DRAW WITH YOUR NON-DOMINANT HAND

Recall: PART 3: DRAW WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED

Recall: PART 4: EYES, NOSE, MOUTH

In this part, I want you to be aware of the WHOLE PAGE.  It may seem strange, but I want you to draw a frame around the whole sheet.  This makes your mind’s eye aware of the entire surface.  Often we draw in the middle of the sheet, neglecting the rest, resulting in a floating drawing with no grounding.  So if your sheet is an index card, or 12 by 12 feet- draw a frame around the exterior (just quick, no ruler):

Now draw a face in closeup filling the whole sheet using the techniques from part 4.   Draw with a light china marker, then add details with black.  Keep it simple.  Relax.  Have fun!
