“Of the Forest”
This piece emerged through a powerful, meditative process. After painting the full canvas, I deconstructed it into 64 panels (13 cm x 20 cm each), then hand-embroidered them back together in a randomized order. The final form is a visceral, tactile expression of memory, fragmentation, and reassembly.
You can explore the full creative process below, from brushstroke to stitch.

The full process of creating Of the Forest
First Stage: Create
My niece, Vivienne, age 8 at the time, sometimes worked on the piece with me.
The piece continued to evolve… With no attachment to outcome. Only to the process, which I find enormously healing.
Second Stage: Deconstruct and Reconstruct
Mixed them all up, collected them and laid in order of how they stacked.
The accidental connections between the randomly selected canvas pieces are satisfying. My eye naturally finds harmony in the accidents. The deconstruction and reconstruction feels like finding sense and meaning in chaos.
