1940’s kitchen. The importance of historical context cont.)

Recall the importance of historical context for my graphic novel research in my post yesterday: LINK.

As the story is mainly set in the 1940’s, I find myself fascinated by the 1940’s kitchen.

1722 Victoria Drive. Molly’s family home in 1945.
A 1940’s kitchen inspired by my visits to Fort Langley Antique mall

Afterwards, they always had tea in the kitchen, much the nicest room in the house. – Flora Thompson

The epilogue will elaborate on the use of historical context

‘Because of the pail, the scraps were saved,

Because of the scraps, the pigs were saved,

Because of the pigs, the rations were saved,

Because of the rations, the ships were saved,

Because of the ships, the island was saved,

Because of the island, the Empire was saved,

And all because of the housewife’s pail’
