“Torgau, May 1945”

Occupation: The Long Shadow, my multi-year graphic novel project is (literally) drawn from the 1948 unpublished manuscript written by my Norwegian grandfather, Gunnar Thorsen, documenting his experience as a prisoner of war during the Second World War. The project began with a question that continues to shape my practice: Can interpretation through image and text help us converse with “ghosts” in the archives?
