Proceeds will support the research and development of my multi-year graphic novel project, Occupation: The Long Shadow.

Drawing on my Norwegian grandfather Gunnar’s written accounts and diaries, the graphic novel explores his experiences as a prisoner of war during the Second World War in Norway, Germany, and Poland.

But this is more than a story about war and imprisonment. It’s also about the psychological impact of captivity and the struggle to hold on to one’s humanity when everything familiar has been taken away.

Structured in five acts, the work draws inspiration from POW art and the existential literature of Samuel Beckett.

At its heart, Occupation: The Long Shadow explores a fundamental question:
What does it mean to survive, and can we ever truly leave the past behind?
